Using the template from the NCCDH I summarized the Community Engagement Action guide published by BC Healthy Communities. This activity was helpful in my learning about how to engage communities. One thing I learned was that many health promotion organizations in my province do not have a published community engagement strategy. Even my own health organizations website was vague in speaking about how they engage the community in health initiatives. I particularly liked the action guide to community engagement by BC Healthy Communities because of the equity lens it used to ensure all had a voice and were able to participate in the engagement activities.
Designing this Health Promotion Infographic was creative and fun. I enjoyed translating the information I have learned about the increased prevalence of diabetes in Indigenous populations, the reasons for this, and my proposed initiatives to combat the SDHs and prevent diabetes in this population into a simple eye catching infographic. It was challenging to simplify the information and present it in a way that will grab and hold a readers attention. This was a new approach to presenting information for me and I am glad to have added it to my repertoire.
